Solomon’s ¹  Most Excellent ²  Love Song. ³ 

He composed ¹  3,000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.

speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music ¹  in ²  your hearts to the Lord,

I will silence ¹  the noise of your songs; the sound of your harps will be heard no more.

But no one says, ‘Where is God, my Creator, who gives songs in the night, ¹ 

Your statutes have been my songs ¹  in the house where I live. ² 

Take away from me your ¹  noisy songs; I don’t want to hear the music of your stringed instruments. ² 

for there our captors ask us to compose songs; ¹  those who mock us demand that we be happy, saying: ²  “Sing for us a song about Zion!” ³ 

“Take the harp, go through the city, forgotten prostitute! Play it well, play lots of songs, so you’ll be noticed!” ¹ 

For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors ¹  for the singers and for the songs of praise and thanks to God.

Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, ¹  or like vinegar poured on soda, ²  so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. ³ 

They sing ¹  to the tune of ²  stringed instruments; ³  like David they invent ⁴  musical instruments.

Watch them from morning to evening; ¹  I am the object of their mocking songs.

And the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who together with his colleagues ¹  was in charge of the songs of thanksgiving.

You are my hiding place; you protect me from distress. You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance. ¹  (Selah)

Let the word of Christ ¹  dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace ²  in your hearts to God.

Why did you run away secretly ¹  and deceive me? ²  Why didn’t you tell me so I could send you off with a celebration complete with singing, tambourines, and harps? ³ 

From the ends of the earth we ¹  hear songs – the Just One is majestic. ²  But I ³  say, “I’m wasting away! I’m wasting away! I’m doomed! Deceivers deceive, deceivers thoroughly deceive!” ⁴ 

The women singing in the temple ¹  will wail in that day.” The sovereign Lord is speaking. “There will be many corpses littered everywhere! ²  Be quiet!”

Those who sit at the city gate gossip about me; drunkards mock me in their songs. ¹
