They must not slander ¹  anyone, but be peaceable, gentle, showing complete courtesy to all people.

It is an honor for a person ¹  to cease ²  from strife, but every fool quarrels. ³ 

Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.

A relative ¹  offended ²  is harder to reach than ³  a strong city, and disputes are like the barred gates ⁴  of a fortified citadel. ⁵ 

A foolish child ¹  is the ruin of his father, and a contentious wife ²  is like ³  a constant dripping. ⁴ 

Drive out the scorner ¹  and contention will leave; strife and insults will cease. ² 

Where there is no wood, a fire goes out, and where there is no gossip, ¹  contention ceases. ² 

You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.

So I want the men ¹  to pray ²  in every place, lifting up holy hands ³  without anger or dispute.

Starting a quarrel ¹  is like letting out water; ²  stop it before strife breaks out! ³ 

But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, ¹  quarrels, and fights about the law, ²  because they are useless and empty.

Now receive the one who is weak in the faith, and do not have disputes over differing opinions. ¹
