Those who linger over wine, those who go looking for mixed wine. ¹ 

Threshing floors and wine vats will not feed the people, ¹  and new wine only deceives them. ² 

Their wine is snakes’ poison, the deadly venom of cobras.

Then I set cups and pitchers full of wine in front of the members of the Rechabite community and said to them, “Have some wine.” ¹ 

Wake up, you drunkards, ¹  and weep! Wail, all you wine drinkers, ²  because the sweet wine ³  has been taken away ⁴  from you. ⁵ 

When he drank some of the wine, he got drunk and uncovered himself ¹  inside his tent.

His eyes will be dark from wine, and his teeth white from milk. ¹ 

Inside I am like wine which has no outlet, ¹  like new wineskins ²  ready to burst!

You make me happier ¹  than those who have abundant grain and wine. ² 

You have made your people experience hard times; ¹  you have made us drink intoxicating wine. ² 

then your barns will be filled completely, ¹  and your vats ²  will overflow ³  with new wine.

For they eat bread ¹  gained from wickedness ²  and drink wine obtained from violence. ³ 

She has prepared her meat, ¹  she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table. ² 

“Come, eat ¹  some of my food, and drink some of the wine I have mixed. ² 

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.

They no longer sing and drink wine; ¹  the beer tastes bitter to those who drink it.

So listen to this, oppressed one, who is drunk, but not from wine!

“So tell them, ¹  ‘The Lord, the God of Israel, says, “Every wine jar is made to be filled with wine.”’ ²  And they will probably say to you, ‘Do you not think we know ³  that every wine jar is supposed to be filled with wine?’

No priest may drink wine when he enters the inner court.

Old and new wine take away the understanding of my people. ¹
