The waves ¹  roar, O Lord, the waves roar, the waves roar and crash. ²

The waves of death engulfed me; the currents ¹  of chaos ²  overwhelmed me. ³

You rule over the proud sea. ¹  When its waves surge, ²  you calm them.

Meanwhile the boat, already far from land, ¹  was taking a beating from the waves because the wind was against it.

Now ¹  a great windstorm ²  developed and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was nearly swamped.

If only you had obeyed my ¹  commandments, prosperity would have flowed to you like a river, ²  deliverance would have come to you like the waves of the sea. ³ 

I am the Lord your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves surge. The Lord who commands armies is his name!
