Other seeds fell among the thorns, ¹  and they grew up and choked them. ²

You will recognize them by their fruit. Grapes are not gathered ¹  from thorns or figs from thistles, are they? ² 

Other seed fell among the thorns, ¹  and they grew up and choked it, ²  and it did not produce grain.

They put a purple cloak ¹  on him and after braiding ²  a crown of thorns, ³  they put it on him.

The ¹  seed sown among thorns is the person who hears the word, but worldly cares and the seductiveness of wealth ²  choke the word, ³  so it produces nothing.

for each tree is known ¹  by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered ²  from thorns, nor are grapes picked ³  from brambles. ⁴
