It will produce thorns and thistles for you, but you will eat the grain ¹  of the field.

But evil people are like thorns – all of them are tossed away, for they cannot be held in the hand.

Thorns and snares ¹  are in the path of the perverse, but the one who guards himself keeps far from them.

Mourn ¹  over the land of my people, which is overgrown with thorns and briers, and over all the once-happy houses ²  in the city filled with revelry. ³ 

Her fortresses will be overgrown with thorns; thickets and weeds will grow ¹  in her fortified cities. Jackals will settle there; ostriches will live there. ² 

Therefore, I will soon ¹  fence her in ²  with thorns; I will wall her in ³  so that ⁴  she cannot find her way. ⁵
