You sold ¹  your people for a pittance; ²  you did not ask a high price for them. ³ 

He sent a man ahead of them ¹  – Joseph was sold as a servant.

You sold Judeans and Jerusalemites to the Greeks, removing them far from their own country. ¹ 

he is to calculate the value of the years it was sold, ¹  refund the balance ²  to the man to whom he had sold it, and return to his property.

Now ¹  in Egypt the Midianites ²  sold Joseph ³  to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard. ⁴ 

Moreover, ¹  the open field areas of their cities ²  must not be sold, because that is their perpetual possession.

after he has sold himself he retains a right of redemption. ¹  One of his brothers may redeem him,

For this is what the Lord says: “You were sold for nothing, and you will not be redeemed for money.”

But Jacob said, “Swear an oath to me now.” ¹  So Esau ²  swore an oath to him and sold his birthright ³  to Jacob.

Hasn’t he treated us like foreigners? He not only sold us, but completely wasted ¹  the money paid for us! ² 

While the famine was over all the earth, ¹  Joseph opened the storehouses ²  and sold grain to the Egyptians. The famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt.

Joseph said to his brothers, “Come closer to me,” so they came near. Then he said, “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.

Now, do not be upset and do not be angry with yourselves because you sold me here, ¹  for God sent me ²  ahead of you to preserve life!

The land must not be sold without reclaim ¹  because the land belongs to me, for you are foreigners and residents with me. ² 

“‘If your brother becomes impoverished and sells some of his property, his near redeemer is to come to you and redeem what his brother sold. ¹ 

Since they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they must not be sold in a slave sale. ¹ 

and they cast lots for my people. They traded ¹  a boy for a prostitute; they sold a little girl for wine so they could drink. ² 

Look! I am rousing them from that place to which you sold them. I will repay you for what you have done! ¹ 

For we have been sold ¹  – both I and my people – to destruction and to slaughter and to annihilation! If we had simply been sold as male and female slaves, I would have remained silent, for such distress would not have been sufficient for troubling the king.”

So when the Midianite ¹  merchants passed by, Joseph’s brothers pulled ²  him ³  out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites ⁴  then took Joseph to Egypt.
