that ¹  you must search out ²  my iniquity, and inquire about my sin,

if ¹  you seek ²  it like silver, ³  and search for it ⁴  like hidden treasure,

When Saul learned that David had fled to Gath, he did not mount a new search for him.

to ¹  those who wait ²  for death that ³  does not come, and search for it ⁴  more than for hidden treasures,

The Lord said, ¹  “Go up and down ²  through the streets of Jerusalem. ³  Look around and see for yourselves. Search through its public squares. See if any of you can find a single person who deals honestly and tries to be truthful. ⁴  If you can, ⁵  then I will not punish this city. ⁶ 

As surely as I live, declares the sovereign Lord, my sheep have become prey and have become food for all the wild beasts. There was no shepherd, and my shepherds did not search for my flock, but fed themselves and did not feed my sheep,
