Have you not read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. ¹ 

And again another scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.” ¹ 

(For they did not yet understand ¹  the scripture that Jesus ²  must rise from the dead.) ³ 

For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” ¹ 

Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, ¹  to exhortation, to teaching.

Then ¹  he began to tell them, “Today ²  this scripture has been fulfilled even as you heard it being read.” ³ 

If those people to whom the word of God came were called ‘gods’ (and the scripture cannot be broken), ¹ 

For these things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled, “Not a bone of his will be broken.” ¹ 

So Philip started speaking, ¹  and beginning with this scripture ²  proclaimed the good news about Jesus to him.

For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited ¹  to him as righteousness.” ² 

Every scripture ¹  is inspired by God ²  and useful for teaching, for reproof, ³  for correction, and for training in righteousness,

For I tell you that this scripture must be ¹  fulfilled in me, ‘And he was counted with the transgressors.’ ²  For what is written about me is being fulfilled.” ³ 

So after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture ¹  and the saying ²  that Jesus had spoken.

let the one who believes in me drink. ¹  Just as the scripture says, ‘From within him ²  will flow rivers of living water.’” ³ 

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time ¹  everything was completed, ²  said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ³  “I am thirsty!” ⁴ 

“Brothers, ¹  the scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through ²  David concerning Judas – who became the guide for those who arrested Jesus –

God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew! Do you not know what the scripture says about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?

But the scripture imprisoned ¹  everything and everyone ²  under sin so that the promise could be given – because of the faithfulness ³  of Jesus Christ – to those who believe.

For the scripture says, “Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain,” ¹  and, “The worker deserves his pay.” ² 

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture, ¹  “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” ²  you are doing well.
