Not ¹  only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

The good person out of the good treasury of his ¹  heart ²  produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasury ³  produces evil, for his mouth speaks ⁴  from what fills ⁵  his heart.

By itself the soil produces a crop, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head.

It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.

The ¹  seed sown among thorns is the person who hears the word, but worldly cares and the seductiveness of wealth ²  choke the word, ³  so it produces nothing.

but ¹  worldly cares, the seductiveness of wealth, ²  and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, ³  and it produces nothing.

For if there was glory in the ministry that produced condemnation, ¹  how much more does the ministry that produces righteousness ²  excel ³  in glory!

For sadness as intended by God produces a repentance that leads to salvation, leaving no regret, but worldly sadness brings about death.

But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; ¹  its fate is to be burned.

Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. ¹  But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness ²  for those trained by it.

I tell you the solemn truth, ¹  unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone. ²  But if it dies, it produces ³  much grain. ⁴
