So ¹  the demons came out of the man and went into the pigs, and the herd of pigs ²  rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned.

A ¹  large herd of pigs was feeding some distance from them.

There on the hillside, ¹  a great herd of pigs was feeding.

And the demonic spirits ¹  begged him, “Send us into the pigs. Let us enter them.”

Then the demons begged him, ¹  “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”

He ¹  was longing to eat ²  the carob pods ³  the pigs were eating, but ⁴  no one gave him anything.

Those who had seen what had happened to the demon-possessed man reported it, and they also told about the pigs.

Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, ¹  and the demonic spirits ²  begged Jesus ³  to let them go into them. He gave them permission. ⁴ 

So he went and worked for ¹  one of the citizens of that country, who ²  sent him to his fields to feed pigs. ³ 

Do not give what is holy to dogs or throw your pearls before pigs; otherwise they will trample them under their feet and turn around and tear you to pieces. ¹ 

And he said, ¹  “Go!” So ²  they came out and went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake and drowned in the water.

Jesus ¹  gave them permission. ²  So ³  the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs. Then the herd rushed down the steep slope into the lake, and about two thousand were drowned in the lake.
