Then Abraham got up from mourning his dead wife ¹  and said to the sons of Heth, ² 

(19:2) Joab was told, “The king is weeping and mourning over Absalom.”

My harp is used for ¹  mourning and my flute for the sound of weeping.

I am dazed ¹  and completely humiliated; ²  all day long I walk around mourning.

Our hearts no longer have any joy; ¹  our dancing is turned to mourning.

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three whole weeks. ¹

The Israelites mourned for Moses in the deserts of Moab for thirty days; then the days of mourning for Moses ended.

When I heard these things I sat down abruptly, ¹  crying and mourning for several days. I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

I mourned for them as I would for a friend or my brother. ¹  I bowed down ²  in sorrow as if I were mourning for my mother. ³ 

I will pray ¹  to God, my high ridge: ²  “Why do you ignore ³  me? Why must I walk around mourning ⁴  because my enemies oppress me?”

For you are the God who shelters me. ¹  Why do you reject me? ²  Why must I walk around ³  mourning ⁴  because my enemies oppress me?

The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of merrymaking. ¹ 

At that time the sovereign master, the Lord who commands armies, called for weeping and mourning, for shaved heads and sackcloth. ¹ 

They will answer, ‘Moab is disgraced, for it has fallen! Wail and cry out in mourning! Announce along the Arnon River that Moab has been destroyed.’

But suddenly Babylonia will fall and be destroyed. ¹  Cry out in mourning over it! Get medicine for her wounds! Perhaps she can be healed!

He unrolled it before me, and it had writing on the front ¹  and back; ²  written on it were laments, mourning, and woe.

they will tear out their hair because of you and put on sackcloth, and they will weep bitterly over you with intense mourning. ¹
