And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

For none of us lives for himself and none dies for himself.

Yet Jesus himself ¹  frequently withdrew ²  to the wilderness ³  and prayed.

(although Jesus himself was not baptizing, but his disciples were), ¹ 

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but ¹  the one who humbles ²  himself will be exalted.”

For just as the Father has life in himself, thus he has granted the Son to have life in himself,

Let each one examine ¹  his own work. Then he can take pride ²  in himself and not compare himself with ³  someone else.

Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

But the expert, ¹  wanting to justify ²  himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

While ¹  they were talking and debating ²  these things, ³  Jesus himself approached and began to accompany them

He himself was not the light, but he came to testify ¹  about the light.

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people. ¹ 

(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.) ¹ 

The Spirit himself bears witness to ¹  our spirit that we are God’s children.

Therefore, each of us will give an account of himself to God. ¹ 

The one who is spiritual discerns ¹  all things, yet he himself is understood ²  by no one.

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself ¹  as an angel of light.

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

Husbands, love your ¹  wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her

He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!
