He brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.

When he knocked at the door of the outer gate, a slave girl named Rhoda answered. ¹ 

he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they began making fun of him. ¹ 

His ¹  head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.

When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and gently took her by the hand, and the girl got up.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A ¹  slave girl ²  came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”

When ¹  he went out to the gateway, another slave girl ²  saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”

Then, gently taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up.”

The girl got up at once and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). They were completely astonished at this. ¹ 

Then a slave girl, ¹  seeing him as he sat in the firelight, stared at him and said, “This man was with him too!”

The girl ¹  who was the doorkeeper said to Peter, “You’re not one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” ²  He replied, ³  “I am not.”

When his daughter Herodias ¹  came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”

But Simon Peter was left standing outside by the door. So the other disciple who was acquainted with the high priest came out and spoke to the slave girl who watched the door, ¹  and brought Peter inside.

Now ¹  as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave girl met us who had a spirit that enabled her to foretell the future by supernatural means. ²  She ³  brought her owners ⁴  a great profit by fortune-telling. ⁵
