Shechem said to his father Hamor, “Acquire this young girl as my wife.” ¹ 

Samson went down to Timnah, where a Philistine girl caught his eye. ¹ 

Naaman ¹  went and told his master what the girl from the land of Israel had said.

Then they said, “We’ll call the girl and find out what she wants to do.” ¹ 

Samson continued on down to Timnah ¹  and spoke to the girl. In his opinion, she was just the right one. ² 

But Rebekah’s ¹  brother and her mother replied, “Let the girl stay with us a few more days, perhaps ten. Then she can go.”

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Yes, do so.” ¹  So the young girl ²  went and got ³  the child’s mother. ⁴ 

When he got home, ¹  he told his father and mother, “A Philistine girl in Timnah has caught my eye. ²  Now get her for my wife.”

On the fourth day they woke up early and the Levite got ready to leave. ¹  But the girl’s father said to his son-in-law, “Have a bite to eat for some energy, ²  then you can go.”

So the two of them sat down and had a meal together. ¹  Then the girl’s father said to the man, “Why not stay another night and have a good time!” ² 

He woke up early in the morning on the fifth day so he could leave, but the girl’s father said, “Get some energy. ¹  Wait until later in the day to leave!” ²  So they ate a meal together.

They trample ¹  on the dirt-covered heads of the poor; ²  they push the destitute away. ³  A man and his father go to the same girl; ⁴  in this way they show disrespect ⁵  for my moral purity. ⁶

her husband came ¹  after her, hoping he could convince her to return. ²  He brought with him his servant ³  and a pair of donkeys. When she brought him into her father’s house and the girl’s father saw him, he greeted him warmly. ⁴ 

When the man got ready to leave ¹  with his concubine and his servant, ²  his father-in-law, the girl’s father, said to him, “Look! The day is almost over! ³  Stay another night! Since the day is over, ⁴  stay another night here and have a good time. You can get up early tomorrow and start your trip home.” ⁵
