Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and lentil stew; Esau ate and drank, then got up and went out. ¹  So Esau despised his birthright. ² 

These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,

The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

Esau said to his father, “Do you have only that one blessing, my father? Bless me too!” ¹  Then Esau wept loudly. ² 

Timna, a concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz, bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons ¹  of Esau’s wife Adah.

These were the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah the daughter of Anah and granddaughter ¹  of Zibeon: She bore Jeush, Jalam, and Korah to Esau.

These were the chiefs ¹  among the descendants ²  of Esau, the sons of Eliphaz, Esau’s firstborn: chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz,

and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I assigned Mount Seir, ¹  while Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

and rejected Esau. ¹  I turned Esau’s ²  mountains into a deserted wasteland ³  and gave his territory ⁴  to the wild jackals.”

The first came out reddish ¹  all over, ²  like a hairy ³  garment, so they named him Esau. ⁴ 

Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for fresh game, ¹  but Rebekah loved ²  Jacob.

“Look,” said Esau, “I’m about to die! What use is the birthright to me?” ¹ 

Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Look, I overheard your father tell your brother Esau,

Then he asked, “Are you really my son Esau?” “I am,” Jacob ¹  replied.

His father Isaac asked, ¹  “Who are you?” “I am your firstborn son,” ²  he replied, “Esau!”

Then Esau realized ¹  that the Canaanite women ²  were displeasing to ³  his father Isaac.

“If Esau attacks one camp,” ¹  he thought, ²  “then the other camp will be able to escape.” ³ 

Jacob ¹  stayed there that night. Then he sent ²  as a gift ³  to his brother Esau

But Esau said, “I have plenty, my brother. Keep what belongs to you.”
