For the ear assesses ¹  words as the mouth ²  tastes food.

“Now a word was secretly ¹  brought ²  to me, and my ear caught ³  a whisper ⁴  of it.

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

by making ¹  your ear ²  attentive to wisdom, and ³  by turning ⁴  your heart ⁵  to understanding,

The ear that hears and the eye that sees ¹  – the Lord has made them both. ² 

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye has seen you. ¹ 

Does the one who makes the human ear not hear? Does the one who forms the human eye not see? ¹ 

Incline your ear ²  and listen to the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my instruction. ³ 

The one who turns away his ear ¹  from hearing the law, even his prayer ²  is an abomination. ³ 

“As soon as the ear heard these things, ¹  it blessed me, ²  and when the eye saw them, it bore witness to me,

Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, ¹  so is a wise reprover to the ear of the one who listens. ² 

All this ¹  monotony ²  is tiresome; no one can bear ³  to describe it: ⁴  The eye is never satisfied with seeing, nor is the ear ever content ⁵  with hearing.

Look, the Lord’s hand is not too weak ¹  to deliver you; his ear is not too deaf to hear you. ² 

and you are to kill the ram and take some of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, on the tip of the right ear of his sons, on the thumb of their right hand, and on the big toe of their right foot, ¹  and then splash the blood all around on the altar.

then his master must bring him to the judges, ¹  and he will bring him to the door or the doorposts, and his master will pierce his ear with an awl, and he shall serve him forever. ² 

you shall take an awl and pierce a hole through his ear to the door. ¹  Then he will become your servant permanently (this applies to your female servant as well).

It will be as when one gathers the grain harvest, and his hand gleans the ear of grain. It will be like one gathering the ears of grain in the Valley of Rephaim.

may your ear be attentive and your eyes be open to hear the prayer of your servant that I am praying to you today throughout both day and night on behalf of your servants the Israelites. I am confessing the sins of the Israelites that we have committed ¹  against you – both I myself and my family ²  have sinned.

This is what the Lord says: “Just as a shepherd salvages from the lion’s mouth a couple of leg bones or a piece of an ear, so the Israelites who live in Samaria will be salvaged. ¹  They will be left with just a corner of a bed, ²  and a part ³  of a couch.”
