and rescue you and this city from the king of Assyria. I will shield this city.”’”

The filthy, ¹  stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished! ² 

For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

Jerusalem ¹  is a city designed to accommodate an assembly. ² 

So there was ¹  great joy ²  in that city.

How deserted will that once-famous city ¹  be, that city that was once filled with ²  joy! ³ 

The city’s ¹  wall is made ²  of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass. ³ 

Abimelech fought against the city all that day. He captured the city and killed all the people in it. Then he leveled ¹  the city and spread salt over it. ² 

No one came to the rescue because the city ¹  was far from Sidon ²  and they had no dealings with anyone. ³  The city ⁴  was in a valley near Beth Rehob. The Danites ⁵  rebuilt the city and occupied it.

After he left Paddan Aram, Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem in the land of Canaan, and he camped near ¹  the city.

He built up the city around it, from the terrace to the surrounding walls; ¹  Joab restored the rest of the city.

The messengers journeyed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, but people mocked and ridiculed them. ¹ 

However, a poor but wise man lived in the city, ¹  and he could have delivered ²  the city by his wisdom, but no one listened ³  to that poor man.
