He called a child, had him stand among them,

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, ¹  I set aside childish ways.

saying, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child’s life are dead.”

Whoever then humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

And whoever welcomes ¹  a child like this in my name welcomes me.

She went home and found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

While ¹  they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. ² 

When ¹  they saw him, ²  they related what they had been told ³  about this child,

So ¹  the child’s ²  father ³  and mother were amazed ⁴  at what was said about him.

But Jesus ¹  gently took her by the hand and said, ²  “Child, get up.”

“Sir,” the official said to him, “come down before my child dies.”

So you, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

And they began making fun of him. ¹  But he put them all outside ²  and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions ³  and went into the room where the child was. ⁴ 

So ¹  the woman gave birth to a son, a male child, ²  who is going to rule ³  over all the nations ⁴  with an iron rod. ⁵  Her ⁶  child was suddenly caught up to God and to his throne,

Then he got up, took the child and his mother during ¹  the night, and went to Egypt.

So ¹  he got up and took the child and his mother and returned to the land of Israel.

When he entered he said to them, “Why are you distressed and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.”

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

I tell you the truth, ¹  whoever does not receive ²  the kingdom of God like a child ³  will never ⁴  enter it.”

But they did not have a child, because Elizabeth was barren, ¹  and they were both very old. ²
