They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see,

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

and ears, but cannot hear. Indeed, they cannot breathe. ¹ 

hands, but cannot touch, feet, but cannot walk. They cannot even clear their throats. ¹ 

The topaz of Cush ¹  cannot be compared with it; it cannot be purchased with pure gold.

Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother; ¹  he cannot pay God an adequate ransom price ² 

What is bent ¹  cannot be straightened, ²  and what is missing ³  cannot be supplied. ⁴ 

If ¹  he passes by me, I cannot see ²  him, ³  if he goes by, I cannot perceive him. ⁴ 

Surging waters cannot quench love; floodwaters ¹  cannot overflow it. If someone were to offer all his possessions ²  to buy love, ³  the offer ⁴  would be utterly despised. ⁵ 

all will be put to shame ¹  because of a nation that cannot help them, who cannot give them aid or help, but only shame and disgrace.”

Their webs cannot be used for clothing; they cannot cover themselves with what they make. Their deeds are sinful; they commit violent crimes. ¹ 

But even the swiftest cannot get away. Even the strongest cannot escape. ¹  There in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall in defeat. ² 

Now let the king issue a written interdict ¹  so that it cannot be altered, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed. ² 

But he added, “You cannot see my face, for no one can ¹  see me and live.” ²
