They ¹  laid hands on ²  the apostles and put them in a public jail.

So ¹  they seized ²  them and put them in jail ³  until the next day (for it was already evening).

But the officers ¹  who came for them ²  did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, ³ 

“We found the jail locked securely and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them, ¹  we found no one inside.”

But someone came and reported to them, “Look! The men you put in prison are standing in the temple courts ¹  and teaching ²  the people!”

Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the prison, ¹  the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. So he was there in the prison. ² 

(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.) ¹ 

But during the night an angel of the Lord ¹  opened ²  the doors of the prison, ³  led them out, ⁴  and said,

and came ¹  and apologized to them. After ²  they brought them out, they asked them repeatedly ³  to leave the city.

for which I suffer hardship to the point of imprisonment ¹  as a criminal, but God’s message ²  is not imprisoned! ³ 

so he imprisoned them in the house of the captain of the guard in the same facility where Joseph was confined.

They will be imprisoned in a pit, ¹  locked up in a prison, and after staying there for a long time, ²  they will be punished. ³ 

But Saul was trying to destroy ¹  the church; entering one house after another, he dragged off ²  both men and women and put them in prison. ³ 

He imprisoned ¹  them all for three days.

¹ He puts my feet in shackles; he watches closely all my paths.’

They bind ¹  their kings in chains, and their nobles in iron shackles,

Herod added this to them all: He locked up John in prison.

in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, ¹  in troubles, ²  in sleepless nights, in hunger,

Both of them, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream ¹  the same night. ²  Each man’s dream had its own meaning. ³ 

The officials were very angry ¹  at Jeremiah. They had him flogged and put in prison in the house of Jonathan, the royal secretary, which they had converted into a place for confining prisoners. ²
