The house he builds is as fragile as a moth’s cocoon, ¹  like a hut ²  that a watchman has made.

Then make sure you don’t speak evil words ¹  or use deceptive speech! ² 

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

Guard your heart with all vigilance, ¹  for from it are the sources ²  of life.

My child, guard the commands of your father and do not forsake the instruction of your mother.

The one who guards his words ¹  guards his life, but ²  whoever is talkative ³  will come to ruin. ⁴ 

The highway ¹  of the upright is to turn ²  away from evil; the one who guards ³  his way safeguards his life. ⁴ 

The one who tends a fig tree ¹  will eat its fruit, ²  and whoever takes care of ³  his master will be honored.

All of your people will be godly; ¹  they will possess the land permanently. I will plant them like a shoot; they will be the product of my labor, through whom I reveal my splendor. ² 

If ¹  I have sinned – what have I done to you, ²  O watcher of men? ³  Why have you set me as your target? ⁴  Have I become a burden to you? ⁵ 

Love the Lord, all you faithful followers ¹  of his! The Lord protects those who have integrity, but he pays back in full the one who acts arrogantly. ² 

keeping loyal love for thousands, ¹  forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression ²  of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation.”
