They asked for food, ¹  and he sent quails; he satisfied them with food from the sky. ² 

He asked for water, and she gave him milk; in a bowl fit for a king, ¹  she served him curds.

The king said, “Find out whose son this boy is!”

Do to him what you think is appropriate, ¹  but don’t let him live long and die a peaceful death. ² 

“For inquire now of the former ¹  generation, and pay attention ²  to the findings ³  of their ancestors; ⁴ 

Will ¹  it ²  go down to the barred gates ³  of death? Will ⁴  we descend ⁵  together into the dust?”

Ask me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, ¹  the ends of the earth as your personal property.

How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

My lord asked his servants, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’

They said to him, “Seek a divine oracle for us, ¹  so we can know if we will be successful on our mission.” ² 

She said, “In the past they would always say, ‘Let them inquire in Abel,’ and that is how they settled things.

The Lord ¹  was pleased that Solomon made this request. ² 

That night God appeared ¹  to Solomon and said to him, “Tell me ²  what I should give you.”

“But now, ask the animals and they ²  will teach you, or the birds of the sky and they will tell you.

He asked you to sustain his life, ¹  and you have granted him long life and an enduring dynasty. ² 

“Ask for a confirming sign from the Lord your God. You can even ask for something miraculous.” ¹ 

“The Lord who rules over all says, ‘Ask the priests about the law. ¹ 

Remember the ancient days; bear in mind ¹  the years of past generations. ²  Ask your father and he will inform you, your elders, and they will tell you.

Now I’d like to ask you for just one thing. Please don’t refuse me.” ¹  She said, “Go ahead and ask.” ² 

One night in Gibeon the Lord appeared ¹  to Solomon in a dream. God said, “Tell ²  me what I should give you.”
