Will you show him partiality? ¹  Will you argue the case ²  for God?

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his loyal love endures!

Now the leader ¹  of the clan ²  of the Gershonites was Eliasaph son of Lael.

So they say to God, ‘Turn away from us! We do not want to ¹  know your ways. ² 

They were saying to God, ‘Turn away from us,’ and ‘What can the Almighty do to us?’ ¹ 

“If this is not so, who can prove me a liar and reduce my words to nothing?” ¹ 

then this ¹  also would be iniquity to be judged, ²  for I would have been false ³  to God above.

Look, I am just like you in relation to God; I too have been molded ¹  from clay.

I cry out for help to the sovereign God, ¹  to the God who vindicates ²  me.

Do not withhold good from those who need it, ¹  when ²  you ³  have the ability ⁴  to help. ⁵ 

Melchizedek king of Salem ¹  brought out bread and wine. (Now he was the priest of the Most High God.) ² 

He blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by ¹  the Most High God, Creator ²  of heaven and earth. ³ 

For you must not worship ¹  any other god, ²  for the Lord, whose name ³  is Jealous, is a jealous God.

“Therefore, listen to me, you men of understanding. ¹  Far be it from ²  God to do wickedness, from the Almighty to do evil.

For he adds transgression ¹  to his sin; in our midst he claps his hands, ²  and multiplies his words against God.”

I thirst ¹  for God, for the living God. I say, ²  “When will I be able to go and appear in God’s presence?” ³ 

By day the Lord decrees his loyal love, ¹  and by night he gives me a song, ²  a prayer ³  to the living God.

I will pray ¹  to God, my high ridge: ²  “Why do you ignore ³  me? Why must I walk around mourning ⁴  because my enemies oppress me?”

If we had rejected our God, ¹  and spread out our hands in prayer to another god, ² 

There must be ¹  no other ²  god among you. You must not worship a foreign god.
