where then ¹  is my hope? And my hope, ²  who sees it?

For you say, ‘Where now is the nobleman’s house, ¹  and where are the tents in which the wicked lived?’ ²

But where are the gods you made for yourselves? Let them save you when you are in trouble. The sad fact is that ¹  you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah.

Where now are the prophets who prophesied to you that ¹  the king of Babylon would not attack you or this land?

Why do you forget ¹  the Lord, who made you, who stretched out the sky ²  and founded the earth? Why do you constantly tremble all day long ³  at the anger of the oppressor, when he makes plans to destroy? Where is the anger of the oppressor? ⁴
