where then ¹  is my hope? And my hope, ²  who sees it?

Is not your piety ¹  your confidence, ²  and your blameless ways your hope? ³ 

Thus the poor have hope, and iniquity ¹  shuts its mouth. ² 

He tears me down ¹  on every side until I perish; ²  he uproots ³  my hope ⁴  like one uproots ⁵  a tree.

The hope ¹  of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will remain unfulfilled. ² 

Let him bury his face in the dust; ¹  perhaps there is hope.

“Oh that ¹  my request would be realized, ²  and that God would grant me what I long for! ³ 

My days ¹  are swifter ²  than a weaver’s shuttle ³  and they come to an end without hope. ⁴ 

Such is the destiny ¹  of all who forget God; the hope of the godless ²  perishes,

And you will be secure, because there is hope; you will be protected ¹  and will take your rest in safety.

Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! ¹  For he is the one who gives me confidence. ² 

For you give me confidence, ¹  O Lord; O Lord, I have trusted in you since I was young. ² 

When a wicked person dies, his expectation perishes, ¹  and the hope of his strength ²  perishes. ³ 

What the righteous desire ¹  leads ²  only to good, but what the wicked hope for ³  leads ⁴  to wrath.

For surely there is a future, ¹  and your hope will not be cut off. ² 

Do you see ¹  a man wise in his own eyes? ²  There is more hope for a fool ³  than for him.

Do you see someone ¹  who is hasty in his words? ²  There is more hope for a fool than for him. ³ 

Indeed, there is hope for your posterity. ¹  Your children will return to their own territory. I, the Lord, affirm it! ² 

She said, “I agree to these conditions.” ¹  She sent them on their way ²  and then tied the red rope in the window.

But the eyes of the wicked fail, ¹  and escape ²  eludes them; their one hope ³  is to breathe their last.” ⁴
