You gave the weary ¹  no water to drink and from the hungry you withheld food.

I spread my hands out to you in prayer; ¹  my soul thirsts for you in a parched ²  land. ³ 

I will fully satisfy the needs of those who are weary and fully refresh the souls of those who are faint. ¹ 

Now Jacob cooked some stew, ¹  and when Esau came in from the open fields, he was famished.

Now Gideon and his three hundred men had crossed over the Jordan River, and even though they were exhausted, they were still chasing the Midianites. ¹

A psalm of David, written when he was in the Judean wilderness. ²  O God, you are my God! I long for you! ³  My soul thirsts ⁴  for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and parched ⁵  land where there is no water.

It will be like a hungry man dreaming that he is eating, only to awaken and find that his stomach is empty. ¹  It will be like a thirsty man dreaming that he is drinking, only to awaken and find that he is still weak and his thirst unquenched. ²  So it will be for the horde from all the nations that fight against Mount Zion.
