that with an iron chisel and with lead ¹  they were engraved in a rock forever!

But ¹  you blew with your breath, and ²  the sea covered them. They sank ³  like lead in the mighty waters.

The fiery bellows of judgment burn fiercely. But there is too much dross to be removed. ¹  The process of refining them has proved useless. ²  The wicked have not been purged.

“‘Tarshish ¹  was your trade partner because of your abundant wealth; they exchanged silver, iron, tin, and lead for your products.

Then a round lead cover was raised up, revealing a woman sitting inside the basket.

‘Only the gold, the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

“Son of man, the house of Israel has become slag to me. All of them are like bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the furnace; ¹  they are the worthless slag of silver.

He then said, “This woman represents wickedness,” and he pushed her down into the basket and placed the lead cover on top.

As silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin are gathered in a furnace so that the fire can melt them, so I will gather you in my anger and in my rage. I will deposit you there ¹  and melt you.
