Her gates will mourn and lament; deprived of her people, she will sit on the ground. ¹ 

Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days and his brothers came to console him.

Only his flesh has pain for himself, ¹  and he mourns for himself.” ² 

The new wine dries up, the vines shrivel up, all those who like to celebrate ¹  groan.

Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, ¹  and mourned for his son many days.

But Absalom fled and went to King Talmai son of Ammihud of Geshur. And David ¹  grieved over his son every day.

When I heard these things I sat down abruptly, ¹  crying and mourning for several days. I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

The fishermen will mourn and lament, all those who cast a fishhook into the river, and those who spread out a net on the water’s surface will grieve. ¹ 

Be happy for Jerusalem and rejoice with her, all you who love her! Share in her great joy, all you who have mourned over her!

Because of this the land will mourn and the sky above will grow black. ¹  For I have made my purpose known ²  and I will not relent or turn back from carrying it out.” ³
