The Lord alone was guiding him, ¹  no foreign god was with him.

Foreigners are powerless before me; ¹  when they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ² 

How can we sing a song to the Lord in a foreign land?

¹ “Foreigners will take care of ²  your sheep; foreigners will work in your fields and vineyards.

All the men of his household, whether born in his household or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

They threw away the foreign gods they owned ¹  and worshiped ²  the Lord. Finally the Lord grew tired of seeing Israel suffer so much. ³ 

He removed the pagan altars ¹  and the high places, smashed the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. ² 

Those truly of Israelite descent ¹  separated from all the foreigners, ²  standing and confessing their sins and the iniquities of their ancestors. ³ 

So I purified them of everything foreign, and I assigned specific ¹  duties to the priests and the Levites.

When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ¹  Foreigners are powerless ²  before me;

There must be ¹  no other ²  god among you. You must not worship a foreign god.

Reach down ¹  from above! Grab me and rescue me from the surging water, ²  from the power of foreigners, ³ 

Grab me and rescue me from the power of foreigners, ¹  who speak lies, and make false promises. ² 

Foreigners will rebuild your walls; their kings will serve you. Even though I struck you down in my anger, I will restore my favor and have compassion on you. ¹ 

This is what the sovereign Lord says: No foreigner, who is uncircumcised in heart and flesh among all the foreigners who are among the people of Israel, will enter into my sanctuary. ¹ 

So Jacob told his household and all who were with him, “Get rid of the foreign gods you have among you. ¹  Purify yourselves and change your clothes. ² 

¹ The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover. No foreigner may ²  share in eating it. ³ 

Even from a foreigner ¹  you must not present the food of your God from such animals as these, for they are ruined and flawed; ²  they will not be acceptable for your benefit.’”
