One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, but ²  one who beats a person to death must be put to death.

He found another man and said, “Wound me!” So the man wounded him severely. ¹ 

Has the Lord struck down Israel like he did their oppressors? ¹  Has Israel been killed like their enemies? ² 

When they approached the Israelite camp, the Israelites rose up and struck down the Moabites, who then ran from them. The Israelites ¹  thoroughly defeated ²  Moab.

Then, ¹  if the guilty person is sentenced to a beating, ²  the judge shall force him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of blows his wicked behavior deserves. ³ 

I would go out after it, strike it down, and rescue the sheep from its mouth. If it rose up against me, I would grab it by its jaw, strike it, and kill it.

Then the king of Israel marched out and struck down the horses and chariots; he thoroughly defeated ¹  Syria.

¹ “Whoever strikes someone ²  so that he dies ³  must surely be put to death. ⁴

The Lord will also subject you to madness, blindness, and confusion of mind. ¹ 

He destroyed their vines and fig trees, and broke the trees throughout their territory.

The sun will not harm you by day, or the moon by night. ¹ 

He struck down the firstborn of Egypt, including both men and animals.

He defeated many nations, and killed mighty kings –

to the one who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his loyal love endures,

to the one who struck down great kings, for his loyal love endures,

A rebuke makes a greater impression on ¹  a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool. ²
