The intentions of the heart ¹  belong to a man, ²  but the answer of the tongue ³  comes from ⁴  the Lord. ⁵ 

A gentle response ¹  turns away anger, but a harsh word ²  stirs up wrath. ³ 

A person has joy ¹  in giving an appropriate answer, ²  and a word at the right time ³  – how good it is!

The Lord works ¹  everything for its own ends ²  – even the wicked for the day of disaster. ³ 

A servant ¹  cannot be corrected ²  by words, for although ³  he understands, there is no answer. ⁴ 

With Job’s ¹  three friends he was also angry, because they could not find ²  an answer, and so declared Job guilty. ³ 

But when Elihu saw ¹  that the three men had no further reply, ²  he became very angry.

The prophets ¹  will be ashamed; the omen readers will be humiliated. All of them will cover their mouths, ²  for they will receive no divine oracles.” ³
