The worthless idols will be completely eliminated. ¹ 

At that time ¹  men will throw their silver and gold idols, which they made for themselves to worship, ²  into the caves where rodents and bats live, ³ 

For at that time ¹  everyone will get rid of ²  the silver and gold idols your hands sinfully made. ³ 

For all the gods of the nations are worthless, ¹  but the Lord made the heavens. ² 

But you, however, are inventors of lies; ¹  all of you are worthless physicians! ² 

For all the gods of the nations are worthless, ¹  but the Lord made the sky.

I overpowered kingdoms ruled by idols, ¹  whose carved images were more impressive than Jerusalem’s ²  or Samaria’s.

Do not turn to idols, ¹  and you must not make for yourselves gods of cast metal. I am the Lord your God.

All who worship idols are ashamed, those who boast about worthless idols. All the gods bow down before him. ¹ 

Their land is full of worthless idols; they worship ¹  the product of their own hands, what their own fingers have fashioned.

As I have done to Samaria and its idols, so I will do to Jerusalem and its idols.” ¹ 

Here is a message about Egypt: Look, the Lord rides on a swift-moving cloud and approaches Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him; the Egyptians lose their courage. ¹ 

The Egyptians will panic, ¹  and I will confuse their strategy. ²  They will seek guidance from the idols and from the spirits of the dead, from the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, and from the magicians. ³ 

What good ¹  is an idol? Why would a craftsman make it? ²  What good is a metal image that gives misleading oracles? ³  Why would its creator place his trust in it ⁴  and make ⁵  such mute, worthless things?

Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! May a sword fall on his arm and his right eye! May his arm wither completely away, and his right eye become completely blind!”

“‘You must not make for yourselves idols, ¹  so you must not set up for yourselves a carved image or a pillar, and you must not place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down before ²  it, for I am the Lord your God.

Then the Lord said to me, “Those prophets are prophesying lies while claiming my authority! ¹  I did not send them. I did not commission them. ²  I did not speak to them. They are prophesying to these people false visions, worthless predictions, ³  and the delusions of their own mind.

“‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: I will destroy the idols, and put an end to the gods of Memphis. There will no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt; so I will make the land of Egypt fearful. ¹
