He sent a man ahead of them ¹  – Joseph was sold as a servant.

She makes linen garments ¹  and sells them, and supplies the merchants ²  with sashes.

If you are not pleased with her, then you must let her go ¹  where she pleases. You cannot in any case sell ²  her; ³  you must not take advantage of ⁴  her, since you have already humiliated ⁵  her.

For we have been sold ¹  – both I and my people – to destruction and to slaughter and to annihilation! If we had simply been sold as male and female slaves, I would have remained silent, for such distress would not have been sufficient for troubling the king.”

I will sell your sons and daughters to ¹  the people of Judah. ²  They will sell them to the Sabeans, ³  a nation far away. Indeed, the Lord has spoken!

But Jacob replied, “First ¹  sell me your birthright.”

“Whoever kidnaps someone ¹  and sells him, ²  or is caught still holding him, ³  must surely be put to death.

after he has sold himself he retains a right of redemption. ¹  One of his brothers may redeem him,

You sold ¹  your people for a pittance; ²  you did not ask a high price for them. ³ 

Acquire ¹  truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding.

I said to them, “To the extent possible we have bought back our fellow Jews ¹  who had been sold to the Gentiles. But now you yourselves want to sell your own countrymen, ²  so that we can then buy them back!” They were utterly silent, and could find nothing to say.

But Jacob said, “Swear an oath to me now.” ¹  So Esau ²  swore an oath to him and sold his birthright ³  to Jacob.

Hasn’t he treated us like foreigners? He not only sold us, but completely wasted ¹  the money paid for us! ² 

Now ¹  in Egypt the Midianites ²  sold Joseph ³  to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard. ⁴ 

“If a man sells his daughter ¹  as a female servant, ²  she will not go out as the male servants do.

You may buy it from your fellow citizen according to the number of years since ¹  the last jubilee; he may sell it to you according to the years of produce that are left. ² 

The land must not be sold without reclaim ¹  because the land belongs to me, for you are foreigners and residents with me. ² 

Moreover, ¹  the open field areas of their cities ²  must not be sold, because that is their perpetual possession.

“‘If your brother becomes impoverished with regard to you so that he sells himself to you, you must not subject him to slave service. ¹ 

Since they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they must not be sold in a slave sale. ¹
