Each man ¹  threw down his staff, and the staffs became snakes. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

Merari’s descendants by their clans were allotted twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

Gershon’s descendants were allotted thirteen cities from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, and from the tribes of Asher and Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance on this side of the Jordan, east of Jericho, ¹  toward the sunrise.”
