to ¹  those who wait ²  for death that ³  does not come, and search for it ⁴  more than for hidden treasures,

From there it spots ¹  its prey, ²  its eyes gaze intently from a distance.

And you will be secure, because there is hope; you will be protected ¹  and will take your rest in safety.

It ¹  paws the ground in the valley, ²  exulting mightily, ³  it goes out to meet the weapons.

he digs a pit ¹  and then falls into the hole he has made. ² 

One who digs a pit may ¹  fall into it, and one who breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. ² 

When Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and discovered a well with fresh flowing ¹  water there,

His servants ¹  dug another well, but they quarreled over it too, so Isaac named it ²  Sitnah. ³ 

The well which the princes ¹  dug, which the leaders of the people opened with their scepters and their staffs.” And from the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;

I did not harm them, but they hid a net to catch me and dug a pit to trap me. ¹ 

Isaac reopened ¹  the wells that had been dug ²  back in the days of his father Abraham, for the Philistines had stopped them up ³  after Abraham died. Isaac ⁴  gave these wells ⁵  the same names his father had given them. ⁶ 

He replied, “You must take these seven ewe lambs from my hand as legal proof ¹  that I dug this well.” ² 

So the Philistines took dirt and filled up ¹  all the wells that his father’s servants had dug back in the days of his father Abraham.

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. “We’ve found water,” they reported. ¹ 

All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, ¹  because they could not drink the water of the Nile.

You must have a spade among your other equipment and when you relieve yourself ¹  outside you must dig a hole with the spade ²  and then turn and cover your excrement. ³ 

The king of Jericho received this report: “Note well! ¹  Israelite men have come here tonight ²  to spy on the land.”

So I went to Perath and dug up ¹  the shorts from the place where I had buried them. I found ²  that they were ruined; they were good for nothing.

Then he moved away from there and dug another well. They did not quarrel over it, so Isaac ¹  named it ²  Rehoboth, ³  saying, “For now the Lord has made room for us, and we will prosper in the land.”

So all of you approached me and said, “Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”
