If you are wise, you are wise to your own advantage, ¹  but if you are a mocker, ²  you alone must ³  bear it. ⁴ 

I wish that they were wise and could understand this, and that they could comprehend what will happen to them.”

It is not the aged ¹  who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

who teaches us ¹  more than ²  the wild animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?’

giving him authority to imprison his officials ¹  and to teach his advisers. ² 

Listen to my instruction ¹  so that you may be wise, ²  and do not neglect it.

Your commandments ¹  make me wiser than my enemies, for I am always aware of them.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; ¹  observe its ways and be wise!

When a scorner is punished, the naive ¹  becomes wise; when a wise person is instructed, ²  he gains knowledge.

My child, ¹  if your heart is wise, then my heart also will be glad;

Listen, my child, ¹  and be wise, and guide your heart on the right way.

Be wise, my son, ¹  and make my heart glad, so that I may answer ²  anyone who taunts me. ³ 

There are four things on earth that are small, ¹  but they are exceedingly wise: ² 

The law of the Lord is perfect and preserves one’s life. ¹  The rules set down by the Lord ²  are reliable ³  and impart wisdom to the inexperienced. ⁴ 

that does not respond to ¹  the magicians, or to a skilled snake-charmer.

Wine ¹  is a mocker ²  and strong drink is a brawler; whoever goes astray by them is not wise. ³ 

So do not be excessively righteous or excessively ¹  wise; ²  otherwise ³  you might ⁴  be disappointed. ⁵
