But listen to what I say to you and to all these people. ¹ 

They said to him, “Please sit down and read it to us.” So Baruch sat down and read it to them. ¹ 

Listen carefully ¹  to my words; let your ears be attentive to my explanation. ² 

Terrifying sounds fill ¹  his ears; in a time of peace marauders ²  attack him.

Destruction ¹  and Death say, ‘With our ears we have heard a rumor about where it can be found.’ ² 

“Indeed, you have said in my hearing ¹  (I heard the sound of the words!):

Then he gives a revelation ¹  to people, and terrifies them with warnings, ² 

He delivers the afflicted by ¹  their ²  afflictions, he reveals himself to them ³  by their suffering.

I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye has seen you. ¹ 

and listened to me. ¹  As long as I live, I will call to him when I need help. ² 

by making ¹  your ear ²  attentive to wisdom, and ³  by turning ⁴  your heart ⁵  to understanding,

My child, pay attention to my words; listen attentively ¹  to my sayings.

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

Apply ¹  your heart to instruction and your ears to the words of knowledge.

As for their wheels, they were called “the wheelwork” ¹  as I listened.

Make the hearts of these people calloused; make their ears deaf and their eyes blind! Otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, their hearts might understand and they might repent and be healed.” ¹ 

Foreigners are powerless before me; ¹  when they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ² 

“Now a word was secretly ¹  brought ²  to me, and my ear caught ³  a whisper ⁴  of it.

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

“Indeed, my eyes have seen all this, ²  my ears have heard and understood it.
