He gave the order for a windstorm, ¹  and it stirred up the waves of the sea. ² 

He calmed the storm, ¹  and the waves ²  grew silent.

Then he ¹  said to his relatives, “Gather stones.” So they brought stones and put them in a pile. ²  They ate there by the pile of stones.

It wraps its roots around a heap ¹  of stones ²  and it looks ³  for a place among stones. ⁴ 

You calm the raging seas ¹  and their roaring waves, as well as the commotion made by the nations. ² 

The Lover to His Beloved: You are a locked garden, ¹  my sister, my bride; you are an enclosed spring, a sealed-up fountain.

The sea has swept over Babylon. She has been covered by a multitude ¹  of its waves. ² 

“This pile of stones and the pillar are reminders that I will not pass beyond this pile to come to harm you and that you will not pass beyond this pile and this pillar to come to harm me. ¹ 

“Here is this pile of stones and this pillar I have set up between me and you,” Laban said to Jacob. ¹ 

he lived in ruined towns ¹  and in houses where ²  no one lives, where they are ready to crumble into heaps. ³ 

when I said, ‘To here you may come ¹  and no farther, ²  here your proud waves will be confined’? ³ 

One deep stream calls out to another ¹  at the sound of your waterfalls; ²  all your billows and waves overwhelm me. ³ 

You rule over the proud sea. ¹  When its waves surge, ²  you calm them.

If only you had obeyed my ¹  commandments, prosperity would have flowed to you like a river, ²  deliverance would have come to you like the waves of the sea. ³ 

I am the Lord your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves surge. The Lord who commands armies is his name!

Babylon will become a heap of ruins. Jackals will make their home there. ¹  It will become an object of horror and of hissing scorn, a place where no one lives. ² 

You threw me ¹  into the deep waters, ²  into the middle ³  of the sea; ⁴  the ocean current ⁵  engulfed ⁶  me; all the mighty waves ⁷  you sent ⁸  swept ⁹  over me.

Laban said, “This pile of stones is a witness of our agreement ¹  today.” That is why it was called Galeed.

¹ Certainly you must have heard! ²  Long ago I worked it out, In ancient times I planned ³  it; and now I am bringing it to pass. The plan is this: Fortified cities will crash into heaps of ruins. ⁴ 

Indeed, ¹  you have made the city ²  into a heap of rubble, the fortified town into a heap of ruins; the fortress of foreigners ³  is no longer a city, it will never be rebuilt.
