So then, ¹  God ²  has mercy on whom he chooses to have mercy, and he hardens whom he chooses to harden. ³ 

since he wants ¹  all people ²  to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

He trusts in God – let God, if he wants to, deliver him now ¹  because he said, ‘I am God’s Son’!”

¹  No ²  one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, ‘The old is good enough.’” ³ 

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, ¹  so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes. ² 

All were astounded and greatly confused, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

For you are bringing some surprising things ¹  to our ears, so we want to know what they ²  mean.”

I ¹  have given her time to repent, but ²  she is not willing to repent of her sexual immorality.

After he sat down, he called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

Then ¹  he said to them all, ²  “If anyone wants to become my follower, ³  he must deny ⁴  himself, take up his cross daily, ⁵  and follow me.

At that time, ¹  some Pharisees ²  came up and said to Jesus, ³  “Get away from here, ⁴  because Herod ⁵  wants to kill you.”

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this command: “If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.”

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to become my follower, ¹  he must deny ²  himself, take up his cross, ³  and follow me.

Then ¹  Jesus ²  called the crowd, along with his disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to become my follower, ³  he must deny ⁴  himself, take up his cross, ⁵  and follow me.

The wind ¹  blows wherever it will, and you hear the sound it makes, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” ² 

If anyone thinks he is acting inappropriately toward his virgin, ¹  if she is past the bloom of youth ²  and it seems necessary, he should do what he wishes; he does not sin. Let them marry.

A wife is bound as long as her husband is living. But if her husband dies, ¹  she is free to marry anyone she wishes (only someone in the Lord).

If ¹  anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths ²  and completely consumes ³  their enemies. If ⁴  anyone wants to harm them, they must be killed this way.
