that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples: ¹ 

All ¹  who were sitting in the council ²  looked intently at Stephen ³  and saw his face was like the face of an angel. ⁴ 

For now we see in a mirror indirectly, ¹  but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known.

When ¹  you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

When the disciples heard this, they were overwhelmed with fear and threw themselves down with their faces to the ground. ¹ 

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,

but the villagers ¹  refused to welcome ²  him, because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. ³ 

For ¹  it will overtake ²  all who live on the face of the whole earth. ³ 

and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

He ¹  fell with his face to the ground ²  at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. ³  (Now ⁴  he was a Samaritan.) ⁵ 

Therefore show ¹  them openly before the churches the proof of your love and of our pride in you. ² 

But when Cephas ¹  came to Antioch, ²  I opposed him to his face, because he had clearly done wrong. ³ 

For the eyes of the Lord are ¹  upon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer. But the Lord’s face is against those who do evil. ² 

And he was transfigured before them. ¹  His ²  face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

Now when ¹  the days drew near ²  for him to be taken up, ³  Jesus ⁴  set out resolutely ⁵  to go to Jerusalem. ⁶ 

You hypocrites! ¹  You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how ²  to interpret the present time?

“And now ¹  I know that none ²  of you among whom I went around proclaiming the kingdom ³  will see me ⁴  again.

especially saddened ¹  by what ²  he had said, that they were not going to see him ³  again. Then they accompanied ⁴  him to the ship.

and not like Moses who used to put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites ¹  from staring ²  at the result ³  of the glory that was made ineffective. ⁴ 

You are looking at outward appearances. ¹  If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should reflect on this again: Just as he himself belongs to Christ, so too do we.
