Indeed, the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,

as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from long ago, ¹ 

The ¹  words of the prophets agree ²  with this, as it is written,

This gospel ¹  he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, ¹  and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets from the past.”

Woe to you! You build ¹  the tombs of the prophets whom your ancestors ²  killed.

so that this generation may be held accountable ¹  for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning ²  of the world, ³ 

Then ¹  beginning with Moses and all the prophets, ²  he interpreted to them the things written about ³  himself in all the scriptures.

But the things God foretold ¹  long ago through ²  all the prophets – that his Christ ³  would suffer – he has fulfilled in this way.

But now ¹  apart from the law the righteousness of God (which is attested by the law and the prophets) ²  has been disclosed –

because you have been built ¹  on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, ²  with Christ Jesus himself as ³  the cornerstone. ⁴ 

because they poured out the blood of your saints and prophets, so ¹  you have given them blood to drink. They got what they deserved!” ² 

The ¹  blood of the saints and prophets was found in her, ²  along with the blood ³  of all those who had been killed on the earth.”

He came to a town called Nazareth ¹  and lived there. Then what had been spoken by the prophets was fulfilled, that Jesus ²  would be called a Nazarene. ³ 

“Woe to you, experts in the law ¹  and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You ²  build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves ³  of the righteous.

And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, ¹  we would not have participated with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’

But this has happened so that ¹  the scriptures of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

They said, ¹  “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, ²  and still others, one of the prophets.”

He ¹  replied to him, ‘If they do not respond to ²  Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” ³
