He had James, the brother of John, executed with a sword. ¹ 

Matthew, Thomas, ¹  James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, ² 

But I saw none of the other apostles ¹  except James the Lord’s brother.

He took Peter, James, ¹  and John with him, and became very troubled and distressed.

Simon ¹  (whom he named Peter), and his brother Andrew; and James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, ² 

The next day Paul went in with us to see James, and all the elders were there. ¹ 

Six days later ¹  Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, ²  and led them privately up a high mountain.

Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their ¹  boat mending nets.

to James and his brother John, the sons of Zebedee, ¹  he gave the name Boanerges (that is, “sons of thunder”);

and Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, ¹  Matthew, Thomas, ²  James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, ³  Simon the Zealot, ⁴ 

He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James, ¹  and John, the brother of James.

Now ¹  about eight days ²  after these sayings, Jesus ³  took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up the mountain to pray.

Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat ¹  with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then ²  he called them.

Six days later ¹  Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John and led them alone up a high mountain privately. And he was transfigured before them, ² 

and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s business partners. ¹  Then ²  Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on ³  you will be catching people.” ⁴ 

Now when he came to the house, Jesus ¹  did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, ²  and James, and the child’s father and mother.
