“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ ¹ 

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ ¹ 

For ¹  this is the gospel ²  message ³  that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another, ⁴ 

As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain ¹  in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

“Again, you have heard that it was said to an older generation, ¹  ‘Do not break an oath, but fulfill your vows to the Lord.’ ² 

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ ¹  and ‘hate your enemy.’

You have heard the blasphemy! What is your verdict?” ¹  They all condemned him as deserving death.

if indeed ¹  you have heard of the stewardship ²  of God’s grace that was given to me for you,

if indeed you heard about him and were taught in him, just as the truth is in Jesus.

Indeed, he greatly missed all of you and was distressed because you heard that he had been ill.

“You have heard that it was said to an older generation, ¹  ‘Do not murder,’ ²  and ‘whoever murders will be subjected to judgment.’

Then the high priest tore his clothes and declared, ¹  “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Now ²  you have heard the blasphemy!

I am telling you the things I have seen while with the ¹  Father; ²  as for you, ³  practice the things you have heard from the ⁴  Father!”

He answered, ¹  “I told you already and you didn’t listen. ²  Why do you want to hear it ³  again? You people ⁴  don’t want to become his disciples too, do you?”

While he was with them, ¹  he declared, ²  “Do not leave Jerusalem, ³  but wait there ⁴  for what my ⁵  Father promised, ⁶  which you heard about from me. ⁷ 

For you have heard of my former way of life ¹  in Judaism, how I was savagely persecuting the church of God and trying to destroy it.

And what you learned and received and heard and saw in me, do these things. And the God of peace will be with you.

Think of how we regard ¹  as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and you have seen the Lord’s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy. ² 

Children, it is the last hour, and just as you heard that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists ¹  have appeared. We know from this that it is the last hour.

So ¹  he answered them, ²  “Go tell ³  John what you have seen and heard: ⁴  The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the ⁵  deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them.
