“It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’ ¹ 

Another ¹  said, ‘I just got married, and I cannot come.’ ² 

Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman ¹  and died without children.

Neither was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for man.

Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

“Teacher, Moses wrote for us: ‘If a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, that man ¹  must marry ²  the widow and father children ³  for his brother.’ ⁴ 

They asked him, ¹  “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that man ²  must marry ³  the widow and father children ⁴  for his brother. ⁵ 

For John had repeatedly told ¹  Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” ² 

Then some Pharisees ¹  came, and to test him ²  they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his ³  wife?” ⁴ 

So ¹  he told them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her.

There were seven brothers. The first one married, ¹  and when he died he had no children.

In the resurrection, when they rise again, ¹  whose wife will she be? For all seven had married her.” ² 

Yet ¹  Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to a woman who was a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. ² 

He ¹  said to the woman, “Your faith ²  has saved you; ³  go in peace.”

In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? ¹  For all seven had married her.” ² 

The experts in the law ¹  and the Pharisees ²  brought a woman who had been caught committing adultery. They made her stand in front of them

But because of immoralities, each man should have relations with ¹  his own wife and each woman with ²  her own husband.

To the married I give this command – not I, but the Lord ¹  – a wife should not divorce a husband

(but if she does, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband), and a husband should not divorce his wife.

The one bound to a wife should not seek divorce. The one released from a wife should not seek marriage. ¹
