He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”

And one of them, an expert in religious law, ¹  asked him a question to test ²  him:

While ¹  the Pharisees ²  were assembled, Jesus asked them a question: ³ 

Now when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

Then Jesus ¹  asked them again, “Who are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

When they had brought them, they stood them before the council, ¹  and the high priest questioned ²  them,

Pilate was surprised that he was already dead. He ¹  called the centurion and asked him if he had been dead for some time.

Now ¹  a certain ruler ²  asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

So ¹  Jesus stopped and ordered the beggar ²  to be brought to him. When the man ³  came near, Jesus ⁴  asked him,

Jesus ¹  asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.

Now ¹  one of the experts in the law ²  came and heard them debating. When he saw that Jesus ³  answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

Then ¹  the high priest stood up before them ²  and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What is this that they are testifying against you?”

So ¹  Pilate asked him, “Are you the king ²  of the Jews?” He replied, ³  “You say so.” ⁴ 

Jesus then ¹  asked him, “What is your name?” He ²  said, “Legion,” ³  because many demons had entered him.

Then ¹  Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, ²  “Are you the king ³  of the Jews?” Jesus ⁴  said, “You say so.” ⁵ 

Once ¹  when Jesus ²  was praying ³  by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them, ⁴  “Who do the crowds say that I am?” ⁵
