Tax collectors ¹  also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?”

I have a baptism ¹  to undergo, ²  and how distressed I am until it is finished!

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

Now when ¹  all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. And while he was praying, ²  the heavens ³  opened,

So he gave orders to have them baptized ¹  in the name of Jesus Christ. ²  Then they asked him to stay for several days.

But John ¹  tried to prevent ²  him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?”

So John ¹  said to the crowds ²  that came out to be baptized by him, “You offspring of vipers! ³  Who warned you to flee ⁴  from the coming wrath?

Now as they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look, there is water! What is to stop me ¹  from being baptized?” ² 

“No one can withhold the water for these people to be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, ¹  can he?” ² 

But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?” ¹
