because her sins have piled ¹  up all the way to heaven ²  and God has remembered ³  her crimes. ⁴ 

For all the nations ¹  have fallen ²  from the wine of her immoral passion, ³  and the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have gotten rich from the power of her sensual behavior.” ⁴ 

Then ¹  I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, so you will not take part in her sins and so you will not receive her plagues,

For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law,

For they all gave out of their wealth. ¹  But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.” ² 

Her ¹  neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown ²  great mercy to her, and they rejoiced ³  with her.

Look! I am throwing her onto a bed of violent illness, ¹  and those who commit adultery with her into terrible suffering, ²  unless they repent of her deeds.

The merchants who sold ¹  these things, who got rich from her, will stand a long way off because they are afraid of her torment. They will weep ²  and mourn,

The angel ¹  who spoke to me had a golden measuring rod with which to measure the city and its foundation stones and wall.

Simon’s mother-in-law was lying down, sick with a fever, so ¹  they spoke to Jesus ²  at once about her.

And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” ¹ 

And when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.

But wisdom is vindicated ¹  by all her children.” ² 

But Jesus ¹  gently took her by the hand and said, ²  “Child, get up.”

Not long after this, a hurricane-force ¹  wind called the northeaster ²  blew down from the island. ³ 

for the earth and its abundance are the Lord’s. ¹ 

Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters ¹  who are in Laodicea and to Nympha and the church that meets in her ²  house. ³ 

They will maintain the outward appearance ¹  of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these. ² 

On the one hand a former command is set aside ¹  because it is weak and useless, ²
