Now a certain man, a Pharisee ¹  named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council, ² 

and concerning judgment, ¹  because ²  the ruler of this world ³  has been condemned. ⁴ 

Now ¹  a certain ruler ²  asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ³ 

Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world ¹  will be driven out. ² 

I will not speak with you much longer, ¹  for the ruler of this world is coming. ²  He has no power over me, ³ 

As he was saying these things, a ruler came, bowed low before him, and said, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and she will live.”

Then ¹  a man named Jairus, who was a ruler ²  of the synagogue, ³  came up. Falling ⁴  at Jesus’ feet, he pleaded ⁵  with him to come to his house,

and from Jesus Christ – the faithful ¹  witness, ²  the firstborn from among the dead, the ruler over the kings of the earth. To the one who loves us and has set us free ³  from our sins at the cost of ⁴  his own blood
