So ¹  he sent and had John beheaded in the prison.

(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.) ¹ 

As the night was ending, ¹  Jesus came to them walking on the sea. ² 

When ¹  did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

Herod added this to them all: He locked up John in prison.

in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, ¹  in troubles, ²  in sleepless nights, in hunger,

And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

In it ¹  he went and preached to the spirits in prison, ² 

He ¹  shouted with a powerful voice: “Fallen, fallen, is Babylon the great! She ²  has become a lair for demons, a haunt ³  for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detested beast. ⁴ 

But he refused. Instead, he went out and threw him in prison until he repaid the debt.

I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’

Even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night ¹  and finds them alert, ²  blessed are those slaves! ³ 

But Peter ¹  said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!” ² 

(This ¹  was a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection ²  started in the city, and for murder.) ³ 

But during the night an angel of the Lord ¹  opened ²  the doors of the prison, ³  led them out, ⁴  and said,

But the officers ¹  who came for them ²  did not find them in the prison, so they returned and reported, ³ 

After they had beaten them severely, ¹  they threw them into prison and commanded ²  the jailer to guard them securely.

I ¹  persecuted this Way ²  even to the point of death, ³  tying up ⁴  both men and women and putting ⁵  them in prison,

Now ¹  when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be released from his prison

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, ¹  and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
